In this talk I’ll describe my research targeting data networks that are used in computational science and cloud datacenters. An exciting trend in this domain is that the network is becoming more programmable — capable of running simple programs independently of connected devices — and this creates both research opportunities and practical challenges. I’ll give some background on how this programmability has surfaced at different times in networking research, and describe how my current work is improving the state of the art.
